Faculty And Advisory Team At West Christian Prep
Colonel (ret.) R. Travis Koch is the Founder and Head of School of West Christian Prep. He was born in Houston, Texas, but, grew up mostly on the East Coast where he came to know and accept the Gospel through Young Life. This experience set him on a path toward education and discipling others.
In addition to being a 1995 graduate of the US Air Force Academy, Travis has two master’s degrees in management and strategic leadership. Col Koch served over 24 years in the US Air Force as an F-15C and F-22 instructor pilot, accumulating over 2,000 flight hours and dozens of combat missions. He commanded the 43d Fighter Squadron, the USAF’s only F-22 Schoolhouse, and the 3d Operations Group, JBER, AK. He has consulted for defense industry firms and has been a guest speaker for numerous organizations. After his military retirement, he served as a teacher and coach at a Christian school in Houston for four years. It was there that he was called to serve families through Christian education.
Travis is married to Amanda Kares Koch of Houston, Texas, and resides there with their two sons, John (21) and Andy (13). Col Koch has been a Young Life leader, a guest pastor, and a boys lacrosse coach from youth to collegiate levels.
Dr. Roosevelt Wilson has been a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ since the early 90s, when the Lord saved him while he was serving as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor in San Diego, California. As a believer, he has served the Lord in various roles, including as an elder, preacher, and Bible study teacher.
Dr. Wilson has spent the last twenty years working in both private and public education after serving in the Marine Corps. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership, a master’s degree in elementary education, an advanced graduate degree in educational leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. His roles in education have included being a teacher (grades 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7), assistant principal, principal, and head of school in districts in Texas and South Carolina. As the first Head of School, Dr. Wilson led the opening of Harbor Christian Academy (HCA), a classical Christian school mainly serving underserved families in Houston’s Fifth Ward, and he directed HCA for its first five years.
Dr. Wilson and his wife, Octavia, who is also an educator, moved to Spring, TX, in June 2006. They have been married for over three decades and are blessed to have four adult children.
Sabino Medrano Jr. is the husband of Samantha and the proud father of six children (one son and five daughters). He was blessed to be raised in a Christian home, and he worships at Christ Presbyterian Church in Spring Valley. He is finishing his Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary.
Sabino has spent most of his career working in pastoral ministry. He helped plant a church in Plymouth, England, from 2015 to 2019. He returned to Houston in 2019 and became the Family Pastor at Lifepoint Church in League City. While looking for an all-boys school for his son (Callum), he discovered WCP. The Lord opened the door for him to teach and for his son to attend. Sabino considers it a great privilege to teach at WCP and believes the school meets a deep need in today’s world.
A native of Newark, Ohio, Phil Lehman has been a follower of Jesus Christ since 2013. After the Lord saved him, he wanted to dedicate his life to serving Christ. While a student at Cedarville University, God showed Phil his love for global missions, local outreach, and the local church.
He started his career as an educator by teaching English as a second language at the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is where he fell in love with education.
Phil has been in the classroom for ten years and spent the last five years at Harbor Christian Academy, a classical school in the Denver Harbor neighborhood in Houston. He coached P.E. and taught 6th- and 7th-grade humanities.
Phil is married to Hannah, and they have a one-year-old son, Isaac.
Nathan Eleweanya graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017 with a degree in Radio-Television-Film. Having fallen in love with tutoring during his final semester, his first job after graduation was with an educational nonprofit, College Forward, as a peer mentor to college students.
He and his wife Kassie are members of Providence Presbyterian Church in Sugar Land. Being redeemed by the incarnate Word of God means Christians are to be a people who love the Word and words. Mr. Eleweanya (Mr. E to his young students) relishes the chance to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and literary as well as imaginative joy, first in himself, and also in his students, to sharpen little arrows for the Lord in His Kingdom.
Dan McElroy is excited to join the West Christian Prep community, bringing a passion for education, mentorship, and helping students grow both inside and outside the classroom. With eight years of experience working in public schools, Dan is committed to building meaningful relationships with students and encouraging them to reach their full potential.
A former college basketball player and coach, Dan values the lessons that athletics can teach about teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and leadership. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Fontbonne University.
Originally from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Dan recently relocated to Houston with his family. His wife serves as the Minister to Preschool at Tallowood Baptist Church. Together, they are raising a son and a daughter and are excited to make Houston their home.
Dan looks forward to being part of the West Christian Prep community and supporting students as they learn, grow, and develop the skills and character they need to succeed.
